Why I wrote this book
Hello. My name is Minori Nishio.
I am a mother raising three children.
In September 2025, I was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer.
My doctor told me I had about six months left.
The first thing I thought was —
“What can I leave
for my children?”
That was the question.
I could leave photographs.
I could leave videos.
I could leave letters.
But when they are grown —
on a night they want to cry alone,
holding a loneliness they cannot say out loud —
I wanted to leave something
they could open in their own time.
That was my wish.
— and so I began to draw.

The heart and soul behind this picture book.
I believe that death is not the end.
Even if we can no longer see each other,
the memories of love,
the sound of laughter,
the warmth,
and the moments we shared
will never truly fade away.
This is not a book that asks you to hold back your tears.
Cry when you want to cry.
Feel the sadness as it comes.
And when the storm passes,
if this book can offer a small light
to help you face forward again,
that is all I could ever hope for.
